“Bank On It” is an original handcut paper collage on a dictionary page, matted to 5×7.
In addition to old books, my other great love is old toys and games. This little piece on an old dictionary page, hosts some “make money” ads, along with Monopoly money and everyone’s favorite Community Chest card: “Bank Error in Your Favor!” Add some tissue paper for color and a bit of washi tape (I was feeling “craft”-y – #sorrynotsorry) and this makes for a fun little collage.
“Under Surveillance” is an original, handcut paper collage on 5×7 matboard.
There’s a lot going on in this little piece. It started with the girls in their Mondrian-inspired color block dresses. I knew I wanted to do something fun with their heads, so I found some old technology. An old movie camera, a reel-to-reel, along with an old slide projector gave me the idea that these girls were recording everything around them. Add the front door, in red, with a brass letter slot, and I had thoughts of their surveillance reaching inside our homes. To stop that, and to protect ourselves, I added the “Do Not Enter” sign, also in red.
Not meant as a political statement, or a “1984” revision, this piece is striking in its color palette and could definitely be a conversation-starter!

This guy was a matinee idol or pop star in days gone by. He’s coyly peeking out at you with the look of love – to tell you that you are loved. His background includes a 1942 local newspaper “Men in the Service” column and other vintage papers.

Little lead soldiers from days gone by stand at the ready in this collage. A vintage map, game scoring sheet, and artist-painted papers create the landscape for them to march across. A pop of red text balances the work and lets you know that they think they are a priority – you decide.

“Color Chart” is an original handcut mixed media collage, on 4”x4” heavy watercolor paper.
A sweet, simple monochromatic collage, “Color Chart” features a vintage catalog image of a young girl in “playclothes” or “bloomers” – reminds me of the awful one-piece gymsuits that I wore in elementary school! Perhaps, subliminally, the “F” in the corner is a reminder of how well I did in grade school gym class – LOL. The sumptuous sepia-toned background is made with a masking/removal technique, and mimics zebra stripes. Numbered squares balance on her head and float along the edge – also harkening back to grade school. A high-gloss protective finish completes this mini work of art, and it is ready to pop into a square frame to highlight any décor.
This 3-dimensional blue/gray butterfly is ready to spread its wings and almost fly out of its shadowbox. Created with artist-painted heavy watercolor paper, acrylics, ink and graphite, and constructed with wooden skewers, wire, hand-sewn jute edges, and vintage Tinker Toys, this mixed media treat is truly one-of-a-kind.
The wooden box is a solid pine cradle with a 4mm birch surface. Panel measures 10×10 inches – 1.5 inch gallery depth, stained a warm maple and is ready to hang with a sawtooth hanger or sit on a shelf.

This sweet and sexy vintage gal stands out on her colorful, intricate, layered background. I found her on the cover of a 1940s girly magazine. This issue was dedicated to bad girls, but she has much more sweetness than the criminals and mischief makers captured within the pages, all in grainy black and white photos. She’s a bit of a tease, lifting her pale blue tulle skirt, high on her thighs. I imagine that her mother dressed her similarly when she paid for ballet lessons in elementary school. Her blond hair is swept up into a conservative bun, with only a slight hint of a “come hither” look in her eyes. She’s ready to dance into your life, and show you a thing or two.
The collage measures 16″x20″ on a wrapped canvas, edged in black, with a protective gloss finish and ready to hang.

A pair of simple collages to celebrate Spring Break, the beach, and sunny days. A throwback to simpler times, these vintage bathing beauties (and their gents) are modest in their swimwear, but still having a blast at the beach. Both pieces are also tied together with unique backgrounds, made through a chemical reaction of CitraSolv and National Geographic magazines. You can almost feel the sea breeze and smell the salt air.
