1) Collage-Lab will continue to offer affordable online collage classes (I gave out over $2,400 in scholarships in 2021 alone!)

2) I started the Buy Me a Coffee page as I was getting ready for a solo exhibit at the Kucera Gallery in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 2023. This honor comes from being awarded Best in Show for the Art Center of Corpus Christi’s All Membership Show. A great honor, to be sure, but creating new work, materials, and framing is quite expensive, so your support is greatly appreciated! (*The show is over and I couldn’t have done it without my amazing “coffee” supporters! You can still go behind the scenes of my art practice when you “Buy Me a Coffee (or gluestick!)” – plenty of artful endeavors on the horizon for 2024 and beyond!)

It’s back! Get ready for the Rockport Center for the Arts Members Gallery “Collage” Theme!

Saturday, March 2, 2024, 10:00AM – 3:00PM – ONLY $25

Get ready for World Collage Day (and Collage in the Member’s Gallery) with this fast-paced and
fun exploration of all things collage! Collage artist Kelly Schaub will share tips and tricks for
creating all sorts of mixed media collages. We’ll play with paper, paint, and markmaking. We’ll
explore composition. We’ll work intuitively, improvisationally, and collaboratively, but above all
we will have fun and create. All supplies included. (Bring an apron or wear your paint clothes.)

ENCAUSTIC HEARTS

Friday, February 2, 2024, 10:30AM – 4:30PM

Learn the basics of working with encaustic medium and collage. We will experiment with the additive and subtractive qualities of creating with hot wax. This introductory workshop will let you experiment with a variety of techniques and materials and create a finished Encaustic Heart artwork in time for Valentine’s Day! All supplies included.

PAINTING WITH FIRE / ENCAUSTIC WAX LECTURE/DEMO

Rockport Center for the Arts – Tuesday, January 9, 2 PM – 4 PM

Collage artist Kelly Schaub will demonstrate a variety of Encaustic Collage techniques. Combining paper collage, wax, and a variety of tricks, she will share with you the wonders of working with Encaustic Wax. Encaustic is a hot wax technique that dates back to the first century A.D. and adds a luxurious luminosity to artwork.

EVERYTHING BUT THE KITCHEN SINK, a Mixed Media Collage Accordion Book

Let’s get messy and play with collage and ALL of the art supplies! Collage artist Kelly Schaub will guide you through creating a beautiful accordion book, full of collage and all sorts of mixed media. All Supplies Included. Collage is one of the most popular and pervasive of all art forms. Long before Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque added collaged bits to their paintings, we can trace the origins of pasted papers back more than 400 years. Collage became the technique of choice in the 1960s and 1970s for anti-establishment protest, and in present day, it is practiced by millions of professional artists, makers, amateurs, and children. We’ll trace the history and popularity of collage and then introduce several artists around the world that continue to elevate collage to a fine art. We’ll explore a broad definition of collage and examine some of the techniques employed by a wide range of artists. German artist, Max Ernst, once stated “Collage is the noble conquest of the irrational, the coupling of two realities, irreconcilable in appearance, upon a plane which, apparently does not suit them.” Come learn more about this fascinating art medium/genre, as we prepare to celebrate World Collage Day on May 13th and start seeing collage in a whole new way!

COLLAGE SAMPLER – 4 ARTIST/INSTRUCTORS IN 4 WEEKS!

I’m excited to return to Rockport Center for the Arts (in the fabulous brand new classrooms!) as 1/4 of this monthlong collage sampler. Karen Rester, Sharen Chatterton, and Bonnie Prouty round out the teaching roster. Join us Thursdays in February.

LUMINOUS LAYERING: AN INTRO TO ENCAUSTIC COLLAGE WITH KELLY SCHAUB

2 DAY WORKSHOP – ROCKPORT CENTER FOR THE ARTS

TUESDAY, MAY 24, 2022 AND WEDNESDAY, MAY 25, 2022 – 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Learn the basics of working with encaustic medium and collage. We will experiment with the additive and subtractive qualities of creating with hot wax. This introductory workshop will let you experiment with a variety of techniques and materials and create some finished encaustic collages that use wax to beautifully enhance the look of the papers beneath. We will create textures, transfer images, and embed paper or items with this most versatile of mediums.

 

 

 

 

CHUNKY COLLAGE ON CANVAS with KELLY SCHAUB

1 DAY WORKSHOP – ART CENTER OF CORPUS CHRISTI

SATURDAY, MAY 21, 2022 – 10:30 AM – 3:30 PM

 

In this one-day workshop, we will create simple collages and then bring them to life by attaching them to a “chunky” thick canvas, which we will transform – resulting in a block-like structure, with the collage seeming to wrap around the sides – hint, it’s actually paint!

 

 

 

 

JUST MY TYPE – TYPOGRAPHY IN COLLAGE with KELLY SCHAUB

1 DAY WORKSHOP – ROCKPORT CENTER FOR THE ARTS

FRIDAY, APRIL 8, 2022 – 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM

This one-day workshop isn’t about adding text, but rather using type as an element – the shapes, the colors, the letterforms. We’ll learn how to create a variety of collages, using typography.

 

 

 

WHAT REMAINS – DÉCOLLAGE with KELLY SCHAUB

1 DAY WORKSHOP – ROCKPORT CENTER FOR THE ARTS

MONDAY, APRIL 18, 2022 – 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Décollage is rather the opposite of collage. While the French word “collage” means to glue, décollage is an un-gluing process. We will rip, tear, peel, and sand away layers in this experimental workshop. We’ll create some wonderfully textured pieces and some unique backgrounds for larger collages.
